PT-141, sometimes referred to as IPT-141 and most recently under the name Bremelanotide is a peptide hormone that derived from Melanotan II. Melanotan II (MT2) was developed for the purpose of promoting tanning, but more than 90% of all subjects during testing were found to have increases in libido, performance and sexual satisfaction. These effects held true in both men and women tests subjects with the enhanced effect of male erection function being the most surprising.
PT-141 is a peptide hormone of the synthetic class based on the alpha-melanocyte-stimulating hormone (alpha-MSH). PT-141 binds at the melanocortin receptors, which are found to directly affect the area of the central nervous system (CNS). The effect on the CNS has been shown to greatly increase libido in men and women, as well as sensitivity and satisfaction. It also appears to have a positive effect on erectile dysfunction (ED). However, ED that is caused by blood flow issues may not be improved with this peptide, but PT-141 seems to have a stronger impact on erections when their lack of quality is based on other factors. Researchers then isolated the part of MT2 that caused this effect and developed the peptide IPT-141, Bremelanotide. Palatin Technologies, the original patent holders of Bremelanotide have stated the effects of IPT-141 on sexually related effects are approximately 50 times greater than MT2.
The effects of PT-141 are fairly straightforward, improvements in sexual desire (libido), improvements in sexual satisfaction (also libido related) and erectile dysfunction. The effects of PT-141 appear to all be neurologically related, meaning the effects are related to the individual’s mental desire for sexual activity. A lack of libido can lead to erectile dysfunction. A lack of libido can cause sex to be far less enjoyable. If we can increase or enhance libido these effects can be reversed.
In the modern age, especially when it comes to erectile dysfunction the use of PED5 inhibitors such as Viagra and Cialis have been dominant. However, it’s important to note that PED5’s do not affect libido they only affect erections. A man may still have a strong libido but an inability to obtain an erection due to a blood flow issue. Through PED5 use this problem may be resolved and is more often than not.
Another possible issue surrounding erectile dysfunction or loss of libido could be a hormone imbalance, such as low testosterone. There may be no blood flow issue but the libido is found lacking due to a lack of the primary male hormone. In such cases testosterone is often administered to correct the problem. In other cases, a low testosterone along with blood flow issue may exist and both testosterone and PED5’s are administered. However, if no blood flow issue exist only a low testosterone condition or if neither exists, blood flow or low testosterone, if libido is still suffering it may be time to look at something like PT-141 since the effect may be mental or in some way related to the CNS. Just like with testosterone and PED5’s there will be cases where PT-141 and PED5’s used together are the needed mixture of mediations.
Important note: The benefits of PT-141 on libido appear to be just as strong in women as they are in men.
The side effects of PT-141 are somewhat limited but do appear to affect quite a few people, especially when use first begins. Nausea and vomiting are the two most common side effects at approximately the same rate as with MT2. Unlike MT2, PT-141 does not appear to have a strong negative effect on appetite if any in most users.
Other possible side effects of PT-141 include headache, dizziness and in some rare cases high blood pressure. Some may also find irritation at the injected area such as soreness or bruising and should rotate or search out new injection sites should this occur.
PT-141 will be found in freeze-dried form and is to be reconstituted using bacteriostatic water. The peptide can be injected intramuscularly or subcutaneously depending on user preference. Total use in terms of dose and duration, there is no official data available, only internet conjecture.
